Tiny tree pinched from bonsai nursery
A thief, perhaps with a bit of a green thumb, ran off with a $1,400 bonsai tree from Ken’s Bonsai Garden in Palo Alto, according to police reports.
That might seem like a big price for a tiny tree, and it is. Bonsai can range from $30 to thousands of dollars, depending on the type and age of the plant.
The thief may have known what he or she was after because the tree snagged sometime late Sunday or early Monday from Ken’s Bonsai on Page Mill Road was valuable, said Palo Alto Sgt. Sandra Brown.
While there are no leads in the case, Palo Alto police know this much: The tree was inside a locked, fenced yard when the store was closed Sunday night and gone by opening time Monday morning.
