Have you ever wondered how you get a beautification award? How a local business or civic organization is selected for their property improvements? It’s easy. You decide. You simply nominate a friend or neighbor or local business for an award and the town’s newly established Beautification Committee does the rest.

The committee, under the auspices of the Board of Selectmen, is pleased to announce this beautification award program that recognizes individuals, organizations, community groups and businesses that improve the quality of life in Stoneham by improving the appearance of the town.

Bill Previdi, who is spearheading the project, said “Nominate a project that has improved your neighborhood or the town’s physical appearance. Projects need to be visually or physically accessible to the general public. They can be as small as a well designed window box or as large an extreme makeover.”

A panel of volunteer judges will prescreen the entries, and the final selection process will include a site visit to the top entries. The program encourages attractive landscaping improvements in our community. Single or multi-family residences, apartment complexes, homeowners associations and non-profit or commercial properties are eligible.

The Style of Stoneham award will be presented to the winners during the summer.
The program is intended to encourage greater public awareness of the important tool of landscaping in environmental beautification. As a community, the way in which we use, improve and maintain our homes, landscaping, buildings and gardens expresses an image of Stoneham. The Style of Stoneham award helps to promote and enhance this image both within the town and beyond its borders. The awards show our neighbors and visitors that Stoneham recognizes the importance and value of keeping our town beautiful.
