Hoffmann, Charles T. “Charles the Florist”
Charles T. Hoffmann, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the age of 74. He was born in Appleton on August 1, 1931, son of the late Norbert and Helen (Van Ryzin) Hoffman. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Army, and then returned to Appleton and purchased an existing florist downtown. Later he moved the floral shop to its current location on College Avenue, and renamed it: Charles the Florist. Charles had owned his own shop since 1954. Even though he retired recently, he kept busy caring for his yard and garden at home, as well as volunteering for various agencies.
Charles is survived by, a brother-in-law, Tom “Connor” Dineen, of Oakfield; and by nine nieces and nephews, Ann (Tom) Rosenthal, of Wausau; Susan Dineen, of Madison; Louise (John) Medved, of Salida, CO; Bill (Tina) Dineen, of Oakfield; Bob Dineen, of Fond du Lac; and his special friend, Sue Michels; Chuck (Cindy) Dineen, of Brownsville; Paul Dineen, of Oakfield; John (Kim) Dineen, of Brownsville; and Tom Dineen, of Oakfield. Charles is also survived by, a longtime and special friend, Betty Koch, of Appleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sister, Helen Dineen.
A memorial funeral liturgy for Charles will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street in Appleton, with Fr. David Belongea, OFM Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday 4 to 8 p.m., and again Tuesday morning at the church after 10 a.m. A memorial fund is being established at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charles’ name.
