Arson attempt at flower show site
Security has been stepped up around the scene of one of the country’s biggest floral shows.
An attempt has been made to set fire to the main marquee at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show.
The event is less than two weeks away and workmen have been assembling the marquees at the Quarry site this week.
Floral Committee Chairman Donna Hamer, working inside the marquee at the time, said: “Hopefully, with security now, nobody will try that again.”
The festival started in 1875 and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest running show of its kind in the world.
