Flower rain kickstarts popular DSS themed week
Special audio-visual effects and oriental music added to the breathtaking atmosphere that marked the opening ceremony of the eight theme week of Dubai Summer Surprises attended by Mohammed Al Fardan, Head of the Flowers Surprises Organising Committee, Saeed Al Nabouda, DSS CEO, Ibrahim Saleh, DSS COO, and Ahmed Abdul Kareem, manager of the Public Parks and Agriculture, Dubai Municipality.
The official ceremony of Flower Surprises began with a Kingdom of Flowers show hosting a Princess of Flowers and her people represented by dancers and acrobats at 7.30pm in the mall amidst a huge crowd. The show conducted by specialists from abroad was an instant draw with the audiences who savoured every moment of it. The special flower rain and balloon dropping against the backdrop of charming oriental music heralded yet another fabulous week in the DSS calendar. The show was indeed one of a kind and performed in the region for the very first time.
The weeklong activities that follow are based on the central theme of flowers. The best of entertainment and fun will be the hallmarks of the week’s activities. Dubai Municipality has gone all out to present a week full of pleasant surprises for the visitors to different malls in Dubai. The organisers also promise to make it a week to remember and sure it will be as there are prizes worth thousands of dirhams to be won too.
Other activities of the theme week will include a Tea Corner in which people of different cultures display how tea is prepared back home in their countries or origin. Families arriving at the Dubai International Airport are being received with flowers and gifts for children.
Various contests have also been organised as part of the week which will be held in two segments: Perfumes and Flowers.
The contests already underway are Natural Flower Arrangement, Artificial Flower Arrangement, Dried Flower Arrangement, Cars Decorated with Flower, Western Perfume (Female), Western Perfume (Male), Best Oriental Perfume, Flower Costume for Kids, Hats with Flower for Kids, and Best Flowers for Kids.
For the first time ever talented artists of various age-groups have been invited to participate in a drawing competition with flowers as the theme. Visitors to different shopping malls can participate in this contest as a moving canvas will be displayed in prominent malls of the city. Over 300 students are expected to participate in this contest which is being organised in coordination with the Dubai Educational Zone.
A flower fashion contest at Mercato Mall and the Best Costume Decorated with flowers (Kids/Females) is also being held.
The shopping malls bring more than 50 flower characters who go to different shopping malls and perform stunning acrobatic shows to welcome the visitors. Daily shows are also being held at six different shopping malls in Dubai. The shows are rounded up with Flower rain by trained artists who shower the audience and visitors to malls with flower petals.
In addition to this, there are live demonstrations and workshops on flower arrangement with natural, artificial and dried flowers, workshops on decorating flower vases and other useful educational workshops on flowers, in addition to free painting and handicrafts workshops at different shopping malls which will continue throughout the week.
10,000 flowers will be distributed to the public in various venues of the Flower Surprises Week, in addition to visitors arriving at the Dubai International Airport.
