Tan Trieu grapefruit and eco-tourism village
The village is located in Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province. When the lunar traditional New Year comes, people in the area manage to buy a couple of Tan Trieu grapefruit to worship their ancestors.
Tan Trieu grapefruit is big and round. Its skin is bright yellow and smells lightly fragrant. Its section is not flat. It tastes delicious.
Tan Trieu grapefruit, together with Nam Roi grapefruit of Vinh Long province, has occupied Ho Chi Minh City’s market and has been initially exported to some countries in the world.
The village uses more than 250 hectares of land to grow grapefruit trees. The villagers combine between growing the trees and receiving domestic and foreign tourists to the village to enjoy the beauty and savour the taste of the fruit.
Growing grapefruit trees in Tan Trieu creates higher economic efficiency than other trees, contributing to hunger elimination and poverty reduction and enriching many locals.
Dong Nai province has developed a project to build the Tan Trieu grapefruit village in combination with eco-tourism development along the Dong Nai River. The village is expected to use 500 hectares to grow the trees in 2005 and 1,000 hectares in 2010.
Apart from the grapefruit, the area also has other kinds of speciality trees of the southern region.
The Tan Trieu grapefruit and eco-tourism village is an attractive tourism site, and can be visited as part of a tour along the Dong Nai River with other travelling sites: Bien Hoa and Tan Van ceramics villages, Buu Long is viewed as a miniature of Ha Long Bay, Tan Buu stone sculpture craft village and ancient pagodas.
