Dubai Opens Flower Centre
Uganda flower farmers are set to benefit from the newly-opened modern Dubai Flower Centre, a trans-shipment facility for perishables.
Jacques Schrier, the chairman of Uganda Flower Exporters Association, said most horticulture farmers in Uganda will prefer to ship their produce through Dubai because of its tax-free status.
The $70m (sh129b) strategically-located facility offers a chance to Uganda and other African growers to reap from the lucrative and inexhaustible cut flower markets in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Schrier said the facility saves time and money in the delivery chain and connects about 20 flower-producing countries.
