Glidden Campus Florist to celebrate milestone
Several area communities and businesses seem to be celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, and Glidden Campus Florist in DeKalb is no exception.
Glidden Campus Florist has been in business for 70 years. Sven Oscar Hansen, owner of Glidden Campus Florist, said he is pleased to be honoring the store’s anniversary. He said, over the years, the business has received a lot of support from area residents and Northern Illinois University students.
“It’s good that we have been around so long,” Hansen said. “I’ve seen DeKalb grow and evolve. I’ve been here (at the store) for 25 years, which is a deceit enough figure itself. We’re called Glidden Campus Florist, but we’re just as much a part of DeKalb. About half of our deliveries go to DeKalb and Sycamore, and the other half goes to the campus.”
Store employees are conducting a 70-year anniversary celebration from Oct. 5-7. As part of the celebration, long-stem roses will be sold for 70 cents, and one dozen roses in a vase will be sold for about $20.
Hansen said, as part of the 70-year anniversary, store employees will be distributing flowers during the sesquicentennial parade and conducting a raffle drawing for a 1936-style floral arrangement.
Glidden Campus Florist offers a variety of plants and products including roses, garden flowers, tulips, daisies, irises, tropical plants and artificial flowers. Hansen said the more popular items seem to be the Gerbil daisies and roses.
