Butterfly Gardening
You would have heard of people planting trees to attract birds to their garden but what about attracting butterflies to your garden?
It’s not every day you’re told to plant a weed in your garden but the Native Pellitory is, as the name suggests, a native weed.
It’s becoming harder to find in Perth as more vegetation is lost to development so why not plant it in your garden and attract the beautiful Australian Admiral butterfly or Yellow Admiral.
The Admiral butterfly can smell pellitory from kilometres away according to zoologists Mike and Mandy Bamford, who spoke to Bernadette Young on 720 Afternoons.
You can find more information about attracting butterflies to your garden in a book called “Bring the Butterflies Back”, available at the Museum of Western Australia.
