How Far Will $100 Take You On Valentine’s Day?
For Valentine’s Day consumers will spend an average of $77.43 to show their significant other just how much they care, and most of that money will be spent on roses.
More than 100 million roses are given on Valentine’s Day – 73 percent of them by men. 15 percent of women will send bouquets to themselves.
And we pay dearly for our love affair with roses. What will one hundred dollars get you? It depends on where you go – so we put them to the test.
First, a wholesaler on the internet promised a magnificent bouquet of 100 colorful roses. Those roses showed up in a box. After carefully arranging them, some looked great and others not so great.
Next, a delivery from the florist brought an impressive bouquet with about a dozen and a half exquisite red roses.
Then, it was off to the grocery store where we were able to buy enough roses to fill eight vases.
After two days the internet flowers failed to perk up. The florist’s single arrangement is holding strong and the grocery store flowers are impressive.
After five days it was time to trash the internet flowers and the other two were doing pretty good.
After seven days, all the flowers were finished.
Bottom line: be careful of buying wholesale on the internet. If you want to impress with quantity go to the grocery store. If you are going for quality, stick with the experts.
How do you keep flowers from ending up in the trash too soon?
If they arrive in plastic water tubes, remove the tubes and any leaves that will be under water, cut one to two inches off the stem, and drop a white coated aspirin and teaspoon of sugar into the water.
