Spring in air at flower show
February 06, 2007 By: Momoy Category: FlowersBEAUTIFUL blooms and a live link-up to Canada were featured at Springfields Flower Show and South Holland Exhibition.
More than 3,000 people visited Spalding’s Springfields Exhibition Centre at the weekend to see display gardens produced by horticulturalists.
South Lincolnshire firms and organisations also held displays and green fingered children from 27 schools competed in the hyacinth growing contest.
An interview with Canadian artist Monique Martin, whose series of tulip paintings were on show, was broadcast over the Internet thanks to Tulip Radio.
Event organiser David Norton, who is the chief executive of Springfields Horticultural Association, said the event brought a breath of spring to the area.
He said: “Winter is normally a dismal time of year. You get the feeling that when visitors walk through to the flower hall there is a gasp of amazement. They can smell the hyacinths and see all those colours.”
