Designer brings fresh ideas home
A fresh face is being painted on the interior design scene in Muskogee. Jocelyn Bartley is a new designer for Window Designs and Interior Details, 618 E. Okmulgee Ave. The Muskogee resident and 2001 graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s interior design program, said she has a passion for bringing quality home decorating to Muskogee residents who might think interior designers are only for wealthy people.
Bartley said she wants to dispel the myth that home decorating and interior design always is expensive.
“I realize that some people feel like hiring a decorator could be out of their league, especially for the younger generation. I would love to show people that decorating can be affordable and fun,” Bartley said. “Sometimes it’s as simple as rearranging what you already own, maybe adding a fresh new coat of paint to the walls and doing a new window treatment. I really want to work with younger people to show them that they can afford to make their space a reflection of their personalities.”
When it comes to interior decorating and design, Bartley said styles and trends can be as diverse as the people that choose them. An individual’s home should be a place that they love and look forward to going home to.
To aid in the affordability of personalizing one’s home, Bartley said her services range from a minimal consulting fee where the homeowner does all of the work to a full redesign where the work can be contracted out.
In comparison to the nation, Bartley said Muskogee still leans toward traditional design and she loves it.
“I think there are a lot of people in Muskogee that take an interest in design,” she said. “I also love and appreciate modern architecture and I would love to do something outside of the box.”
Window Designs owner Kathy Hall said she is looking forward to the fresh perspective and energy Bartley is bringing to Muskogee interior design.
“I think Muskogee is a very unique community in that there is such diversity here,” Hall said. “I think it will be neat for (Bartley) to work in this environment. It is kind of nice to have a balance of the younger perspective with mine.”
Just coming into the business, Bartley brings in a new point of view that Hall said she hope will attract younger clients to take an interest in home decorating.
Originally from Sallisaw, Bartley said family drew her and her husband, Justin, to Muskogee in 2001 and the charm of the community has kept them here.
“I would love more than anything to see more people take the amazing old houses and commercial buildings here and fix them up,” she said. “I wish I had a bottomless amount of money to just redo all of these amazing homes in Muskogee.”
