Horton – Davenport wedding
Tiffany Lauren Davenport and G.W. Horton, both of Rome, were married at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Aragon.
The bride is the daughter of Jannine Wheeler of Rome and Mr. and Mrs. James Davenport of Aragon. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Poindexter of Rome, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Davenport of Kingston, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scoggins of Aragon, Faye Nichols of Rome and the late Thomas J. Nichols. She is the great-granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Ward of Cedartown and Katie Mae Davenport of Silver Creek.
The groom is the son of Brenda Horton and Gary Horton, both of Rome, and Stanley Sutton Sr. of Armuchee. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Dillard of Dalton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Horton.
The Rev. Don Spears of Aragon performed the double-ring ceremony before an altar adorned with urns of princess roses, curly willow, agapanthus, ivy, white stock and hydrangea, a 15-branch silver candelabra, two seven-branch silver candelabras and a unity candle. Family pews were marked with asparagus fern and white satin ribbon.
A candle was lit in memory of Thomas Jackson Nichols, Marshall Davenport, Jessie Lee Nichols, Mary Ruth Smith, Lizzie Beatrice Brock and Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Horton.
A program of wedding music was provided by pianist Morgan Gentry of Rome. Selections included “How Beautiful,” “Trumpet Voluntary” by Clarke, “Bridal Chorus” by Wagner, “The Lord’s Prayer,” “I Do” by Paul Brandt and “Wedding March” by Mendelssohn.
The matron of honor was Bridgett Smith of Dacula, aunt of the bride. The maid of honor was Megan Powell of Rome. Bridesmaids were Ashley Horton, sister of the groom, and Kandice Allen, both of Rome.
Junior bridesmaids were Emily Wheeler of Rome and Abby Davenport of Aragon, sisters of the bride.
Attendants wore strapless, chocolate chiffon, floor-length A-line gowns, each accented with baby pink chiffon trim on the bodice and wraparound sash. They wore baby pearl necklaces and earrings, gifts from the bride, and carried hand-tied bouquets of princess, Anna and vogue roses, green buttons, alstroemeria and tree fern, tied with pink satin ribbon.
Kaleigh Smith of Dacula, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a sleeveless tea-length organza and satin dress in bridal ivory with an empire waistline. The full puckered organza skirt had crystal accents and the bodice featured a chocolate satin waistband and bow. She wore a baby pearl bracelet, a gift from the bride, and carried a hand-tied bouquet of princess spray roses and tree fern, tied with pink satin ribbon.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, chose a strapless formal gown of bridal ivory organza with an embroidered, fitted bodice embellished with crystals and pearls. The full A-line pick-up skirt and chapel-length train were embroidered and embellished with crystals and pearls. She wore a freshwater pearl and crystal tiara holding fingertip and cathedral-length veils adorned with scattered crystals and pearls. The bride also wore pearl earrings and a pearl necklace belonging to her great-great-grandmother, the late Lizzie Beatrice Brock. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of princess, Anna and vogue roses, green buttons, alstroemeria and tree fern tied with pink satin ribbon.
The best man was Derek Stiefel of Rosedale. Groomsmen were Brooklyn Stiefel of Rosedale, Jason McCord and Grant Ferguson of Rome and Matt Plant of Silver Creek. Ben Davenport of Aragon, brother of the bride, was junior groomsman.
The mother of the bride wore a full-length black silk chiffon gown with a halter bodice, tiered silk chiffon skirt and matching black silk chiffon stole. The mother of the groom wore a wine tea-length sleeveless gown and matching jacket accented with wine silk embroidery and embellished with wine sequins. The stepmother of the bride wore a sleeveless formal-length gown of chocolate brown satin with sheer chiffon overlay, draped neckline and waterfall hemline embellished with chocolate and bronze beading.
The mothers carried hand-tied bouquets of princess, Anna and vogue roses, green buttons, alstroemeria and tree fern, tied with pink satin ribbon. Grandmothers of the couple and the great-grandparents of the bride were given pink rose corsages.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Coosa Country Club. Refreshments included the bride’s three-tier ball-shaped strawberry cake filled with fresh strawberries and kiwi and iced in pink butter cream. Between each tier were sugar paste pearls, dusted with champagne shimmer dust, and pale pink sugar paste rose buds. Tiers were decorated with sugar paste appliqués that were dusted in champagne shimmer.
The groom’s cake was chocolate with cream cheese icing. The top of the cake was decorated with the firefighter’s Maltese, and flames adorned the sides of the hexagon-shaped cake. Both cakes were served with personalized silver cake knife and serving sets. The couple left the reception in a 1957 Ford Thunderbird.
The evening before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s mother at Flint Hill Baptist Church Christian Life Center in Aragon.
Other pre-nuptial parties included a kitchen and household shower hosted by Ashley Horton and Kelly Dillard at the Dillard home; a miscellaneous bridal shower hosted by Linda Scoggins, Tara Davenport and Nancy Davenport at Flint Hill Baptist Church Christian Life Center; a bed and bath shower hosted by Lynn Whatley at her home; a couple’s shower hosted by Lou Dempsey, Missie Tolbert, Matt and Tonya Plant, Wayne and Vanessa Wilson and Shay Ray at the Dempsey and Tolbert home; a miscellaneous shower hosted by Bridgett Smith, Brig Kerce and Jean Poindexter at the Poindexter home; a bridesmaids’ brunch hosted by Jannine Wheeler, Tammy Peach and Jessica Peach at the Curry West Lofts; a lingerie shower and bachelorette party hosted by Ashley Horton and Bridgett Smith at the bride’s home; and a gift card shower hosted by the bride’s co-workers at Gordon Hospital in Calhoun.
Following a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., the couple resides in Rome.
