Trisha Haislar’s flower tips
If you’re going to Art in Bloom on Saturday afternoon, you may want to catch Trisha Haislar’s talk. The owner of Elegant Celebrations in Collinsville will share information on floral lifestyle trends at 3 p.m. in the Grigg Gallery off the main sculpture hall. Here are a few things she had to say about flowers:
Popular with brides: “Calla lilies in a variety of colors — white, pink yellow, orange, burgundy. They’re popular now and have been for a couple years. That’s the one flower almost every bride says they would like either in combination with other flowers or by themselves.”
Her favorite: “One that I am particularly fond of is freesia. I love the graceful lines of the blossom and buds, and the light fragrance.”
At home: “When we have people over, I make sure there are flowers. I love flowers at home, but spend so much time here at the office.”
Her garden now: “I don’t have a whole lot of time to garden. I have a lot of perennials. I have a water garden, which I love, with water lilies and things like that and I have great goldfish. They’re fun to watch and feed.”
Yesterday’s flower: “Sunflowers were very popular, but have fallen out of favor a little bit. Gerberas have taken their place. They are very popular and come in a wonderful range of colors. Hydrangeas are very, very popular.” They come in several shades, including popular green tones, and grow well here.”
For the prom: Bracelet corsages are comfortable to wear and not too heavy. Small flowers such as sweetheart roses and dendrobium orchids work well.
