Housing Update — Iowa Village grand opening set for April 19
After much anticipation, residents may view the new homes of Iowa Village at the grand opening ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. April 19.
Residents will be invited to tour a sample home’s interior and offer suggestions regarding improvements to design, layout, colors and amenities. Frontier Heritage Communities will give serious consideration to all suggestions when planning design changes.
The open house will feature furnishings from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service that complement the home and offer ideas for interior decorating. A scale model of the entire post will be on display in the garage of the open house.
Twenty-five units are scheduled for completion by the end of April. Twenty-five more units will open the end of May, and the final 22 will be available the end of June.
Visiting the Iowa Village area today, it would appear that there is still much work to be done before new residents can move in. However, FHC and Clark Construction are completing the development 45 days ahead of schedule.
Construction of Iowa Village began one year ago. When complete, it will provide 72 individual residences for field grade officers.
All new FHC homes include features designed specifically with military families in mind. Ample storage space, open floor plans, modern fixtures and finishes, generous bedroom sizes, and oversized garages were included to accommodate Soldiers stationed at Fort Leavenworth. Full basements double as storm shelters. To make move-in and move-out easier, doors and stairwells are wider than standard. Room layouts provide flexibility for residents to determine the use of individual rooms, such as using the dining room space as an office or to increase the size of the living room.
The next development, Cheyenne Village, is schedule for completion in December 2007. Cheyenne Village is being constructed on the hillside west of Sheridan Drive, on the far western side of Fort Leavenworth. Residents of Cheyenne Village will enjoy views overlooking Kansa and Delaware villages, and the wooded hills to the northwest. These homes will be made available to company grade officers and senior enlisted Soldiers.
Frontier Heritage Communities invites all residents, both on-post and off, to join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 19. The home will remain open for viewing through April 21, in conjunction with the Friends of the Frontier Army Museum Tour Historic of Homes. On that tour, FHC will also open “The Rookery,” the oldest home in Kansas, at 12-14 Sumner Place.
Scholarships available
Frontier Heritage Communities is seeking applications for the annual college scholarship awards program funded by sister company, Interstate Realty Management.
In 2006, five Fort Leavenworth residents received $3,500 in college scholarships. For the past 16 years the IRM education foundation has awarded college scholarships for exceptional students living in one of the corporation’s residential communities. This year, a total of $125,000 is available to scholarship applicants across the United States.
FHC and its sister companies recognize the value of a college education in today’s competitive work environment.
“It’s a real challenge for many families to manage the cost of a college education today. FHC is proud to offer our residents something to ease the burden of those costs,” said Heather Plummer, FHC community manager.
Scholarship applicants will be selected on such criteria as academic performance, character, and proficiency or potential in a chosen field of study. High school students must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and college students must have a minimum 2.3 GPA.
Scholarship applications are available in the FHC offices or on the Web site at www.ftleavenworthfamilyhousing.com. Deadline for applications is May 17.
