Gwalior horticulture exhibition showcases indoor plants
Nature lovers in Gwalior recently witnessed a special horticulture exhibition which had a big variety of indoor plants which could be grown inside small flats.
An array of flowers, flowering plants, fruit-bearing plants, bonsai, plants for kitchen gardens were showcased during the special exhibition titled “Gulshan 2007″. It had mostly indoor plants, taking the current space constraints in an average Indian household.
“The motive behind this exhibition was to inform people, living in flats and facing space problems, how it was still possible to remain close to nature with plants and trees. We made efforts to collect indoor plants – all at one place. We wanted people to come and learn to make all these things,” said Arun Rawat, the organiser of the exhibition.
Almost a thousand different varieties of garden plants, flowering plants and over two thousand medium and big bonsai were exhibited.
Several unique plants like bonsai banyan trees, orange trees loaded with fruits, white pepper and lemon bonsai were in the center of attraction at the exhibition.
To motivate the visitors and participants, a few competitions like flower decoration, kitchen gardens and bonsai were also organised among different categories.
“Every one should do it, if they don’t have space in their houses they should plant trees in pots. We should plant trees and plants in order to manage greenery around us,” said Uma Sapru, a participant.
The exhibition provided some lessons in home gardening.
“I have seen lot of flowers of different varieties. They exhibited different kind of flower decoration and arrangements, which I liked very much. People who are interested in flowers and decorations, should definitely come here,” said Swati, a visitor.
