Orchids galore: Annual show is next weekend
Unless you’re a collector with really deep pockets, you’ll never get to see as many rare and beautiful orchids as will be on display next weekend for the annual Orchid Show at Phipps Garden Center, 1059 Shady Ave., Shadyside.
The free show sponsored by the Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Saturday and until 5 p.m. March 25.
Thousands will be in bloom, and some will be for sale along with supplies. Society members will answer questions. Free lectures will be offered both days. Here’s the schedule:
Next Saturday
11 a.m. “What to Do With the Orchid You Just Bought” by Nancy Kline.
12:15 p.m. “Culture and Care of Orchids Mounted on Various Media” by Joe Kielian.
1:30 p.m. “Orchid Photography” by Armand Latour. (Bring your digital camera.)
2:45 p.m. “Care and Culture of Paphiopedilum and Phragmipedium” by Terry Latour.
March 25
11 a.m. “Repotting Orchids” by Wayne Roberts.
12:15 p.m. “Cattleya Orchids, Their Culture, Care and Repotting,” by Richard Sipko.
1:30 p.m. “Growing Orchids in the House Under Lights” by Georgene Albrecht.
2:45 p.m. “Care and Culture of Oncidium Orchids” by Julia Ecklar.
