Guild’s flower festival with a nautical theme
The Easter Weekend Flower Festival will include a replica of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution flag, a replica of the Blue Peter boat by Rosalind Walker, the Pirates of the Caribbean by Sue Dawson and a half-size model of the Lincolnshire poacher which is currently in service at Skegness.
The committee is famed for raising thousands of pounds each year – around £10,000 in total annually – and much of it comes from their table top sale held each year in March and November.
The event has been held for the past 30 years and the most recent, which was held at Driffield’s Old Town Hall, raised in the region of £800.
Rose Crawford, the press secretary for the guild, said any goods which are not sold at their table tops sales are collected by the Dove House Hospice to raise money for their charity shops.
The flowers for the Easter Weekend Flower Festival have been provided by the Driffield and District Flower Club and arrangements have been designed by Gill Earnshaw.
They will be on display from Friday April 6 until Monday April 9 at Sledmere House with a special preview evening taking place from 7pm until 9pm on Thursday April 5.
Admission to the preview evening is by ticket only priced at £10 which includes a glass of wine and savouries and there will be a raffle and lifeboat souvenirs available.
All proceeds are to go to saving lives at sea.
Tickets for the preview evening have been selling quickly so to have a chance of obtaining one of the remaining tickets send a cheque for £10 per person to: Mrs K Chapman, Golden Hill Farm, Skerne Road, Wansford, Driffield, YO25 8NQ.
Admission to the Easter Weekend Flower Display, which is open from Friday to Monday 11am until 4pm, is £6 for adults, £4 concessions and £2 children.
