Homeowners sought for annual garden tour
Plans for the sixth annual Fallon Garden Tour sponsored by the Flower Tree Nursery are underway.
Even though the event does not take place until Father’s Day weekend, the painstaking process to select homes included on the tour has begun, said Susan Henderson, owner of Flower Tree.
“Although I get dozens of inquiries from people who want to be included on the tour, I have to limit it to 10,” said Henderson. “It is extremely difficult to make the final selections.”
She said it would be very easy to have 20 to 30 incredible and beautifully landscaped homes included on the tour. However, the ideal homes are not only beautiful but are unique and add a variety to the tour.
The tour began six years ago as a way to show that people can grow flowers and maintain gardens in the desert, said Henderson.
“When I bought the nursery in 2000, I heard a lot of people say, ‘I can’t grow here,’” she said. “The reason for the first tour was to show people that, ‘Yes, you can grow here.’”
The event is casual, and those who buy tickets can take the tour at their leisure, she said.
“We encourage people to eat breakfast, then bring a picnic lunch to eat while on the tour at one of the homes,” said Henderson. “The garden tour is great to inspire people. Others can feed off of their enthusiasm.”
The best thing on the tour is the homeowners, she said. They are available to share and answer questions about how they achieved the end result.
She said the cost of tickets is $5, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to a local charity. The charity has not been chosen for the 2007 tour because it is chosen by the final candidates who will be included on the tour.
