Easter garden blooms at All Saints
April 08, 2007 By: Momoy Category: GardenAN EASTER garden has been a part of the seasonal decor at All Saints Anglican Church on Marli Street, for nearly 15 years now.
The garden was created by Mavis Carrington, retired Ag Clerk of the Senate, who was so impressed by the special decoration of flowers and plants in a Jamaican church that with permission from former rector Canon Winston Joseph, she introduced it to All Saints.
This year’s garden features a cross painted in black with the head of Jesus as the focal point in the centre of the cross against a backdrop of purple material. Tiny white lights at the back of the cross reflect the head of the risen Christ. There is a tomb lined with black with a large concrete slab representing the rolled away stone. Inside is a ceramic statue of Mary looking at the empty spot where her son’s body had been laid and the white cloth in which he had been wrapped. Masses of flowers and plants fill the area which is around the church’s baptismal font.
