8 Simple Steps to Having a Stress Free Wedding
By Cee Peterson
We have all seen the popular show Bridezilla on the Womens Entertainment Network. Brides acting like toddlers when they do not get their way. This is a bridezilla.
Weddings can be very stressful. I am going thru this right now. With my wedding day just a mere 9 days away, it is tough. I have had to resist temptation not to loose it all.
There are many reasons why completely sane women become bridezillas. When you spend $5, $10, or $100 thousand dollars, you want what you paid for. Another reason for this condition is, you expect the entire world to stop dead in its tracks because it is your wedding day. This is not a reality either.
Here are a few tips to help you keep your sanity and not become a bridezilla.
1. Always keep your goal on your mind. You are not here to throw the biggest and best wedding in the world. You are here to marry the person you love. You are about to start the best time in your life. You are about to be a newlywed. Enjoy that part of it. The wedding is just the perk.
Keeping your priorities straight will keep your head in the game. This will keep you calm under the most trying of situations.
2. Get organized. You do not need to spend a small fortune on a wedding planner or a wedding coordinator. You can do it yourself. The key is to be organized. You can purchase an inexpensive wedding organizer, or you can easily make one yourself.
Making one yourself is pretty easy to do. All you need is a three ring binder, blank writing paper, and some division tabs. Label the tabs with the most important components of your wedding. For example, clothing, budget, ceremony and honeymoon.
Once you find something you like in a wedding magazine, cut it out. You can tape this to the blank pages and notate what you like. As you finalize your plans take out the information you will not be using. This will keep everything neat and organized.
I would also recommend keeping a calendar in your organizer. This is very helpful once you start to make appointments. If you write everything down it is much easier to manage your time appropriately.
3. Start early. You need a minimum of 6 months to plan a great wedding.
If you start the planning early you can spread all of your tasks over several months. Make yourself goals. They can be daily, weekly, or even monthly. For example, I will accomplish ordering my dress this week.
4. Make and keep a budget. It is much easier if you go into your wedding with an idea of how much you are willing to spend for each item. This will save you a lot of headaches in the end when you have to scramble for that extra $1,000.
5. Have non-wedding days. Take time to spend with your fiancé without discussing the wedding. A little bit of a break is great for both of you. This allows you to re-confirm why you are getting married in the first place. If you already have a existing family in place do a family outing.
6. You are not Martha Stewart. I am sure you want to be able to take the fame of making every decoration by hand. This is a great idea, but sometimes it is just easier to buy them. When you calculate in the labor time, cost and stress, it may not be worth it.
The goal of a wedding is to have fun. The less stress you can do it the better.
7. Relax. Always take a few minutes to calm down and breath. If you do find yourself in a stressful overwhelming situation, take a few deep breaths.
This will get more oxygen to the brain and help you think clearer. Things always look a little more positive when you can see them clearly.
8. Above all, have fun! This is your day. This is the day you are going to proclaim your love to your new spouse. Cherish the moment.
With these 8 easy steps you to can have the wedding of your dreams with out the stress. You should enjoy your day and not fall victim to being another bridezilla.
