The Newport Community Garden will hold its spring open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

Gardening space is free to anyone in the community willing to develop and tend a plot. Gardeners are welcome to experiment with different gardening methods and crops, however out of respect for human and environmental health, the group asks that no chemical pesticides be used.

The garden is located behind the blue house at the entry to Frank Wade Park, off Big Creek Road north of the Newport Swimming Pool.

The public is invited to stop by on Saturday to get information on obtaining a garden bed, to just have a look, or to join in the Saturday spring clean-up and planting party.

The garden is in need of donations of topsoil, a garden shed and garden tools. For more information on the garden or to offer a donation, contact Angela Clarke at 867-3361.
