Paint with Colors that Make You Feel Good
May 09, 2007 By: Momoy Category: Home & DecorationYour mood can actually change according to the colors in a room. It’s a fact that colors affect us psychologically. A terrific means to bring color into your home is to paint your walls. A way to understand how color evokes moods is by learning how colors connect to each other. You can create a desired atmosphere that best suite your family or personal lifestyle. Color palettes should enhance the activities and interests of your household. Color personality quizzes can also help you decide on choosing paint colors. Also, you can use a color wheel.
Decide on the mood you want to set for each room you’re going to paint. It is suggested to use between three and six colors. Notice how the color schemes in your rugs, paintings or furniture makes you feel. You can test to see if the colors are the ones you are comfortable with by painting a small area of a wall and some of the trim. Check the colors against different lights to help you attain your decision. The daylight shows the true color of the paint. The light in the morning can change from soft to warm and sometimes cool. At midday the light is usually the strongest and colors may look intense or very bright. In the evening the light will be warm and change to a cool dark color like blue. Take into consideration what time of day you’ll use the room the most. You can check individual paint chips under natural daylight or artificial light in the evening. Remember that paint colors on the wall will look more vivid than a small paint chip.
Warm colors work great for areas of the house where your family and friends gather regularly. Yellow is said to promote harmony so it would be a good color for a kitchen. The sun, sand, desert and rocks are warm things. If you want to bring a feeling of warmth to a room then brighter colors would be a good choice. A room that is located in a shadier area and has a cool temperature can be made to feel warmer with yellow, oranges and reds.
Cool colors such as lavender, blue and green would work in areas where you want to relax like the den, bedroom and bathroom. Blue is calming and so it’s a good color for stress relief.
Aqua and seafoam are popular because they are water-inspired blues. There are certain colors of blue that can be depressing. Make sure the blue you choose makes you feel good.
Medium greens usually are some reminders of nature. A family room, home office, spa and sun room would be good places to use green colors. You can create a peaceful feeling using greens since gardens, meadows and forests create feelings of peace and calmness.
Slight changes in the tone of color can alter emotions. Also, not everyone moods will be affected by the same colors.
