Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society plans garden tours of seven sites
DAYLILIES IN ALL their glory are on display this month through the courtesy of the gardeners who tend them. Tours make it easier for growers and enthusiasts to share the fascination.
“Open gardens enable the public to see daylilies at peak bloom, in large and small spaces, and visitors can see other plants that grow well with daylilies,” said. Nancy Chain of FigLily Acres, who is the president of the Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society.
The Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society has named seven gardens for the 2007 Daylily Garden Tours May 26-28. Four of the seven are American Hemerocallis Society Display Gardens. The daylily showplaces are throughout the Pine Belt, stretching from the Hattiesburg area to Sumrall and Monticello.

# Suburban Daylilies, Earl and Barbara Watts, 60 Serene Meadows Dr., Hattiesburg, (601) 268-3884.

The garden tours precede the 12th Annual Daylily Show June 16. The daylily show is held at Lake Terrace Convention Center and is the largest daylily show in the nation, with more than700 entries expected for judging. Categories for judging include bloom and use of the flower in an arrangement.
The show will be open to the public from 1-5 p.m. June 16. A plant sale will begin at 10 a.m. the same day. The show is free, and groups and tours are welcome.
