Bossier City company hopes modular homes are a hit in Big Easy
Built to withstand winds up to 140 mph, Skyline Corp.’s latest modular home is anything but mobile, once it is put in place.
Philip DeFatta, salesman and company spokesman, points out that when Katrina hit in 2005, the Bossier City manufacturer was in the process of developing a modular home to withstand extreme weather and wind conditions in excess of 100 mph.
“Due to the small lots in the New Orleans’ 9th Ward area, the only type of housing that will fit is our new singlewide,” he said.
“Skyline developed not one but a whole line of modulars, both single and doubles, and also our new Cape Cod Modular, which is a two-story unit,” DeFatta said.
They come with 8-foot flat ceiling heights with an option of 9 foot. The floors are tongue-and-groove plywood floor decking.
DeFatta said the kitchen features solid oak, raised-panel doors, solid oak cabinet fronts and also lined overhead cabinets with adjustable shelves.
The appliances featured in all our modulars are upgraded G.E. refrigerators, 30-inch electric range with space-maker microwave range hood and a dishwasher, he said.
He noted all the baths feature ceramic tile backsplash, round china commodes, china sinks and dual-handle faucets at all lavatories.
“Skyline is the only (modular housing) factory in the state of Louisiana and has been in business for 37-plus years and is working hard to do its part in helping the people of the south Louisiana and Mississippi area,” DeFatta said.
