Pupils get gardening
Youngsters at a Ham primary school spent a day improving their award-winning gardens last month.
The pupils at Meadlands Primary School, on Broughton Avenue, put on their gardening gear and got down to work, improving the school environment.
The school, which currently holds Richmond in Bloom Schools Gold Awards for both Best School and Best Environmental Area, held one of its Grounds Days and children spent the day working on the school.
Youngsters were gardening, putting in plants, identifying trees and constructing a dead hedge from sticks and branches they collected from the school wildlife area.
Rob Meakin, the school’s headteacher, said: “Our School Grounds Days make a real difference to our school environment. Each class, from reception upwards, had tasks to carry out, and all the children had a very busy and very productive day.
“I would like to thank the parents and carers who came along to help – we have achieved a great deal in a short space of time.”
