Hind House – Simple and Minimalist River House by John Pardey Architects

There’s a house with raised columns that especially designed to deal with water flooding from the river, located on the banks of the river Loddon, near Wargrave. The house consist of three elements, living room, guest room and bedroom spaces. This construction was completed in December 2008. Designer John Pardey Architects.

Additional description from the architects:
A dark, zinc-clad wing is pushed forward to receive an entrance staircase that slices up into an open timber lined hood, with a glazed room to the side containing a guest suite and gym. The stair arrives onto a balcony and entrance – a central hall space – this is the day room, dedicated to outdoor living that leads out onto a large deck. Following the zig-zag of the pinwheel, a staircase then leads down to a garden deck, with boardwalk that arrives at a landing stage on the river’s edge. The house is to be steel framed, with timber stud infill; cedar and zinc-clad, with aluminium framed windows and single-ply roofing.

Intersting design! I commen tthat you should adding a deck for a small boat, cause you and come in the house after paking a car in a long distance.Enjoying an water in a flooding time
1And of course you need a paking for a boat!!!!!
2If water levels rise you’re s-o-l. You’d be the first house to get it! But I have to admit it’s freaking awesome looking, I love it without a doubt. If only the water looked more blue and inviting I would jump into the water each day after waking
3it is so benfitable cost effective place to live.
but what abought mosqitoes & river snack. is there is a dog in the house.
best of luck and happines in the new house.
4that,s bieutifull hoese.very interesting.:-)
5A boat dock/platform could be attached that floated on the water and guided by vertical pipes/columns so whatever the river level access by boat would be possible.
Gaining planning/building permission must have been interesting – local council or water authority?
At what point does the sewage exit the building and what precautions were taken to prevent water main feed from freezing?
