The wood for this house was purchased from Canadian Wood Specialties. Their specialty is log salvage.

They choose to go after the logs that most in the industry would not even discuss: leftovers, mistakes, nature’s reactions and the economically unharvestable. We pursue burnt timbers, blown down trees, bug-kill wood and logs that were left behind in the cuts of 50 – 60 years ago. This wood is difficult and expensive to harvest and process, but they feel that nothing so increasingly rare and valuable should be wasted.

Also, wood salvaged and used in this way can be viewed as a form of carbon sequestration as long as it doesn’t burn or decay.

Pardon my ignorance but can you still call it 'green technology' after using so much of wood?

[...] Perched above its Rancho Santa Fe setting, the Hilltop House has 360-degree views of the surrounding San Diego suburbs. Designed by architects at Safdie-Rabines and built on a gated two-acre lot, the 10,000 square-foot home was outfitted with energy saving green technology that uses passive solar heating and hydronic radiant floors to keep warm in winter. The six-bed/eight-bath home has an office tower, library, media room, several terraces and a six-car garage. Pocket doors slide to reveal a travertine patio space and outdoor water features including a pool and spa. [via momoy] [...]
