In spite of its seeming unsuitability to smaller and darker room, dark wood floor can and should be decorated to give your room a brighter, more open feeling. These are instructions that can help you do just that:

1. A light hue paint is good for more open look. For example, you can pick a white with a blue or gray tint provides welcome contrast in a room with a dark wood floor. As for the ceiling, a semi-gloss or satin finish reflects light around the room. This also hold true for any sloping walls, built-in shelves and window, and door frames.
2. A nature scene of a forest, in a wallpaper mural or wall decals, brightens the interior and creates a focal point.
3. Evoke a breezy interior with pieces in lighter wood frames, either in medium and light stains or painted pale shades of white, cream, gray or barely blue.
4. Give textiles a chance. Nubby woolen rugs in rich jewel tones bring out rosy undertones in dark wood, while a light weight sisal or bamboo floor-mat gives the space texture.
5. Illuminate your room with ambient lighting of pendant lights, a striking chandelier, wall sconces, table lamps and floor lamps. Last but not least, Leafy green plants will make the room complete.
