Germain is a three storey Parisian restaurant designed by Iranian-born and Paris based architect, India Mahdavi. The main characteristic of the restaurant is a massive yellow sculpture of a woman in an overcoat and high heel. Its lower half stands on the café’s first floor while the upper body and head break through the ceiling to the upper level VIP lounge area. Designed by ‘Team Germany’ the surPLUShome concept was win the 2009 Solar Decathlon from the U.S Department of Energy. The surPLUShome design is based on a single room concept by a multi functional body as its central element. surPLUShome is almost entirely covered with photovoltaic panels that managed to generate 19 kilowatts during one day of test runs.

surPLUShome designed with multi functional interior concept, consisting of a single room room provides maximum space and flexibility. In the northern part of the building features several basic and everyday function such as: kitchen, bathroom, stairs, storage space and building services. For different atmospheres and grades of privacy the east side floor (bedroom) has been lowered while an open gallery above offers additional space for cocooning and leisure. Within the past process of Solar Decathlon, Team Germany has always intended to design new solutions for the integration of photovoltaic cells into the building surface.
