Old Classic House Interior Painting Ideas and Tips

June 19, 2010 By: Momoy Category: Home & Decoration, Tips and Ideas

old house interior painting ideas

Homes built in the 1900s are classics, so the color theme should resemble the one from that era. For the classics feel, the pale, neutral look is a good choice.

  • To get the colonial revival look, whites and off-whites will be good for main color scheme and the additional, accompanying color can be that of the natural brick and wood for both the interior and the exterior. Other colors to accompany the main scheme could be light cream or dark, especially for the wall.
  • Even though triple tones were popularized in the late 1800s, the early 20th century still saw two, three and even four paint colors in interior rooms. The usual pattern for the three tone-colored wall was usually a darker color on the lower portion and a lighter look above the wall trim. The third color, darker than both, might be used for the trim.
  • For a little bit more historically accurate paint colors, you can choose what is so called “The Jazz Age” of the 1920s, which are basically silvery grays, blues and purples. Keep the same theme of a light upper wall, mid-tone lower wall and dark trim.

Whether you are a professional musician or simply an enthusiast, your music room should be source of inspiration. These are what you can do to do just that:

  • Put your main instruments in the focus. This includes deciding on the placement of the instruments and the color of the wall as the background so that they are accentuated.
  • If you have unplayable instruments, it’s always inspiring to make alternative use of them, for example, by making lamp from an unused violin, guitar, etc.
  • Those old tablatures or another form of written music can make good theme for wallpaper or even a curtain. Don’t hesitate to let your creative side grow.
  • It’s better to have privacy when making music or enjoying it. So, it’s good idea to separate the room with any kind of divider, from sheet curtains to movable screen. This is often very true especially when the room is also used to offer lessons.
  • Make sure there is enough space for chairs and handy outlets to plug electrical instruments into.
